How does Tom treat people in this chapter? Consider Nick and Myrtle, but don't forget about the other "minor" figures he comes in contact with -- the dog salesman, the people at the party, etc. How does this enrich your understanding of who Tom is and what character traits he is?

He is kind of a jerk. He treats people badly and he shouldnt. He definately didnt need to break Myrtle's nose just because she said Daisy.

Tom actually treats certain people as if they are a lesser group of human. He treats myrtle like a princess until the last part of chapter 2 when he breaks her nose for saying daisy’s name in all disrespect. He also treats nick like a child that just needs to be seen and no necessarily herd. Tom has no respect for others that have less money than he. The salesman is treated as if he could be a rat that just ran across the side walk in front of them. Tom is one of the bad guys that thinks he is better and likes to “stand over” everyone in his path. He believes that because he has never had to really work a day in his life that he is “ a king” and nothing less but in all reality he is just a lying cheating wife beating human that is an equal to the dog salesman.

Tom treats people like he is a god that is way above them. He has no consideration for anybody and for the things he has. He uses his money freely and recklessly. Tom treats the people he should love just as he does the people he doesn't even know. Tom seems to be a person that just has no love for anybody but himself. Tom only cares for himself and nobody else including his wife and daughter.

Tom treats people like hes better than everyone because he has money.Because he has money he uses it to get his ways, for instance the puppy he bought for Myrtle at the parties.Tom respects Daisy way more than Myrtle. Even though Tom is having an affair with Myrtle, he still hits her. He doesn't lay a hang on his wife Daisy, and treats her with respect. The reason why Tom hits Myrtle is because she repeats his wife's name and she doesn't stop when he tells her to stop. Tom treats people like their his people. He bosses them around and makes them do what he wants to do. He feels like he has superiority over everyone. he acts as the impression that we all gave him to be. He is a jerk to everyone and rude in every manner. He gives no one the time of day and doesn't care if you're the nicest person in the world, he's still going to treat you like crap.

In chapter 2, Tom treats everybody pushy like. He makes them feel like that they have to do something. Tom treats people like they are his people. He bosses them around and makes them do what he wants to do. He feels like he has power over everyone and everyone should obey his every command. But he has more respect for Daisy. He knows the boundaries with her and how he is supposed to treat her. When Tom gets upset with Myrtle he just punches her in the face. When tom gets on the train, he forces nick to go with him. Tom expects everyone to treat him with respect although he treats everyone else like trash.

Tom, isn’t the best person and his very conceited in himself!! The fact that he broke Myrtle’s noes was uncalled for just for saying “Daisy, Daisy, and Daisy… “Hello tom you’re the one cheating on (daisy) and sleeping around with whoever. So I believe she (Myrtle) has every right to speak her name.

In this chapter, Tom becomes progressively angry. He also taunts Mr. Wilson when they talk about buying Tom's car, which is taking too long to be repaired. It seems that Tom is controlling, by making Myrtle (Mr. Wilson's wife) have an affair with him. When they meet, they head towards Tom's apartment to have a party. On the way, they meet a dog salesman. Tom buys a dog for Myrtle, and calls it a bitch. Along with that, he tells the salesman to buy more cheap dogs with the money he's given him. Obviously, Tom thinks that the dog wasn't worth the money and the salesman is lesser for selling it to him for that price. When they get to the apartment, they party for a long time. By the end of it, Tom slaps Myrtle for speaking about his wife. I now know more about Tom's abusive relationship towards others, because he is very controlling and he usually gets what he wants.

Tom treats people like they are below him. Tom believes that since he has a lot more money than the average person, then he should be the most important. in the pet store, Tom treats the store clerk with no respect, and just throws the money at the clerk like he was a side show. also, Tom treats daisy with a lot more respect than myrtle. this is so because myrtle comes from the ashes and has no wealth, daisy comes from a more wealthy background. Tom only uses myrtle for a side pleasure for himself. overall in the whole novel, tom thinks he deserves a lot of glory than everyone else.
