I think something that interested me the most is how comfortable Daisy is around Nick as if they had seen each other every day for the past year. I get the fact that they are cousins but if that was me I wouldn’t be that happy/comfortable around my cousin I haven’t seen for a year. It also bothers me that Tom is nowhere to be found whenever his daughter is born and that Daisy is totally fine with it. It also sucks that Daisy sees the world as an awful place where women are seen as beautiful, dumb fools and that men have all the power and say over anything. You can tell that it does not sit well with Daisy but she has learned to deal with the fact and not think about it twice. Instead, she decides to just be paralyzed with happiness around anyone she comes in conversation with.

I find it interesting that daisy didn’t wait very long for Gatsby and went straight to tom just so she could be rich and be lazy and I hate the fact that she acts like she still cares about him if she did then she would leave tom and be with a guy who would treat her right and never hurt her unlike tom does. She is a very stupid girl and a gold digger and wants nothing but money and I hate people who do that. I really don’t understand why she would do something like that if it was me I would wait for the love of my life to come and be happy knowing they are with me and start a family and spend the rest of my life with the one true person I love. This is what I find interesting because we actually have people in life who really pull this crap.

I believe the most important part in chapter one is Nick’s first encounter with Gatsby. He sees Gatsby out on his dock reaching out like he can grasp whatever it is he is reaching for. Nick says he looked away and by the time he looked back Gatsby was gone. What could he be reaching for? Why is he out at dark? Why has Nick never seen him before? Who is Gatsby? Nick makes Gatsby out as a mysterious man. I think this gives us a look at what we are going to get from Gatsby throughout the whole book. A man we do not understand nor know anything about. A mysterious man that we cannot trust.

Something I found interesting from the first chapter of Great Gatsby was when Daisy said, "I'm glad it's a girl. And I hope she'll be a fool- that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool." This is a surprisingly deep message delivered by a character who has, until this point, given off the impression of dim-wittedness. It shows that she actually does realize things about the world and society during these times that others may choose to ignore. This suggests that the stupidity and ignorance is all a front because it's what people expect of her. When she hopes that her daughter is a fool it is probably because she knows from experience that it is no good to be anything else.
